The Essentials of Searching
Doing a search is easy. Simply type one or more search terms (the words or phrase that best describe the information you want to find) into the search box and hit the 'Go' button.
This produces a results page: a list of web pages related to your search terms, with the most relevant page appearing first, then the next, and so on.
Here are some basic tips to help you maximize the effectiveness of your search.
Choosing the right search terms is the key to finding the information you need.
Start with the obvious – if you're looking for a song titled, 'Your Body Is A Wonderland', by John Mayer, try Wonderland.
But it's often advisable to use multiple search terms; if you're search is returning too many results, you'll do better with Body Wonderland than with either Body or Wonderland by themselves.
If you are looking for a song with the title, 'I'll Remember You', you won't have much luck if you try I Will Remember You. You'll do better with Remember You, since the search must match all of the words you search for.
The search will look for the words you try in the product names, descriptions, SKUs, and product detail pages. If you enter more than one word, only products that match all of those words will appear on the search results page.
*Tip: It's better to use too few words than to use too many!
Capitalization and spelling
Searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example, searches for john mayer, John Mayer, and JoHn MaYeR will all return the same results.
*Tip: If you're searching for an artist's last name, but aren't quite sure the exact spelling, try the first name AND a keyword in the song title.
Exclusion of common words
Search will ignore
common words and characters such as "your" and "is",
as well as certain single digits and single letters, because
they tend to slow down your search without improving the results, or may return more results than you care to look through.
*Tip: If a common word
is essential to getting the results you want, for example, 'All Of Me', and you are not finding what you need, try
searching by artist name, or product number.
Search by product numbers or SKU numbers
You can search for specific product numbers or SKU numbers. These are the numbers next to each product on the website or catalog (ie. DLP710515 or 7105).
If the product number starts with DLP this stands for 'Download Product', and will be downloaded.
If the product number is a 4 digit number (7105), this is a complete album with 15 or more tracks.
For example, to search for product number 'DLP710515', use:
Or, if you want to download a track that is on album '7110', use:
Search by vocal range or genre
You can search by vocal range to find all the discs in your range. (ie. Baritone, Tenor, Alto, Soprano, or Duet)
You can also search by music genre. (ie. R&B, Pop, Rock, Alternative Rock, Classic Rock, Vocal, Showtunes, Oldies, and more!)
